Check it out:

Charles Kessler at Left Bank Art Blog has taken the time to create recommended walking tours of the Lower East Side Galleries. It's broken down into four main areas but you can combine the maps to create your own tour. We highly recommend this wonderful resource. Holiday Gift Idea

Looking over our holiday lists around here and I think it's worth mentioning...

Kai-lan Chau's paper prints are just $50 unframed and $75 framed. There are 21 to chose from and 100% of the proceeds from the "Raining Cats & Bears" print (seen here) will be donated to City Critters (CityCritters.org) and Families with Chinese Children (FWCC.org). A limited edition collectable print will last so much longer than the latest toy! So dig deep for the little ones (and the young at heart) on your list!

And for the grown ups, don't miss Julia Marchand's show. Lots of beautiful work at gift-giving prices.

On the subject of neighborhood happenings...Open Studios

It's the 14th annual building wide open studios at Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Education Center on Saturday May 15 th from 4-8 pm. That's the cool old building on the corner of Rivington & Suffolk with the scaffolding. The entrance is at 107 Suffolk St. They have three floors of artist studios. It's definitely worth checking out if you like that kind of thing (we do!). It's also coincidentally the last day of our current exhibition so why not make a day of it on the LES? You can get more info about the open studios at the Artist Alliance Inc web site - http://www.aai-nyc.org/index.html and you can get ideas of places to eat and drink in the neighborhood from our links on the right side of the page.

Shows we recommend 5/1/10

The arrival of the ever fabulous Mark Ryden got the Sloan Fine Art staff out of the gallery and enjoying some shows.

Special thanks to Paul Kasmin and Harley & Daniel for their generous hospitality this week!

Here are a few pics from Ryden's opening (borrowed from Kirsten Anderson and Adam Wallacavage). There's a post on Jodavid Harris' blog with tons of great pictures at
